Mystery

Ship Ashore at Shields

Saturday morning, about three o'clock, some alarm was caused in North and South Shields, by the firing of signals announcing that a vessel was in distress at the entrance to the harbour. It appears that the schooner Mystery, of Whitstable, was being towed to the Tyne, when the wind caught the vessel and drifted her on the end of the South Pier. The North and South Shields lifeboats put off to the vessel, but upon reaching her it was found she had been towed off without sustaining any serious damage. The vessel was afterwards towed into Shields Harbour.
