TIC Hopper Barges

About the same time as the Scotia was towed over the bar two of the Tyne Commissioners hoppers, in charge of a tug, were driven amongst the huge rollers on to the Herd Sand, and had to discharge their ballast there, which was done at great hazard to the men, they were in danger of being swept off their craft with every sea. After being lightened, the tug, with great difficulty, got them brought back in safety to the harbour.
