Screw Steamer Ashore at South Shields

While the screw-steamer Ernest, of Sunderland, from London, was attempting to enter the Tyne, on Tuesday night, the weather being hazy at the time, she went ashore on the south side of the South Pier, South Shields. By the assistance of a steamtug and the crew of the Tom Perry lifeboat, however, the vessel was got off early yesterday morning, and brought into Shields harbour, having sustained no damage.
